Our Top 10 Favorite Love Songs

Top Ten Favorite Love Songs

Valentine’s Day is a special time to celebrate significant others and the loves of our lives. And, one of the best ways to communicate just how much that special person means to you is through music. Love songs are the romantic poetry of our time and the following ten are some of our favorites! We hope you enjoy our playlist!

  • “The Saltwater Room” by Owl City: I love this song from Owl City because it feels like the start of love. It’s the cautious, feeling-it-out stage, and it builds up to the singer not feeling at home when he’s away from his love. —Deborah
  • “Truly Madly Deeply” by Savage Garden: This is actually the first love song l ever loved! I remember being in elementary school, telling my mom to turn it up whenever it came on the radio. I eventually bought Savage Garden’s self-titled album and memorized all of the songs on it, including this one. I may have been too young to really understand what they were talking about at the time, but I knew that I wanted to grow up to have that kind of relationship where you desire to be with that person in every way for the rest of your life. Sarah
  • “How In the World” by Family Force 5: This veers away from FF5’s usual semi-techno style, but I’m okay with that! I love how the singer recognizes how lucky he is to have found his lady, and how he doesn’t know how he ever lived without her. —Deborah
  • “Such Great Heights” by The Postal Service: This song was a high school favorite! Growing up, my head was almost always stuck in a book so my younger brother took on the responsibility of keeping me up to date with the latest music the cool kids were listening to. Indie bands like The Postal Service usually made the list and I quickly fell in love with this song for its perfectly written lyrics. Sarah

I am thinking it’s a sign

That the freckles in our eyes

Are mirror images and when

We kiss they’re perfectly aligned

– “Such Great Heights” by The Postal Service

  • “Inevitable” by Anberlin: This song is about finally finding that right person. The singer talks about wanting time to stand still, so he and his love can be in that moment forever. —Deborah

I wanna be your last first kiss
That you’ll ever have

-“Inevitable” by Anberlin

  • “You Are Mine” by Mutemath: Unlike Deborah and Andrew, Ryan and I never had a song. We traded CDs back and forth when we were dating and listen to music constantly now. But we never really thought about having one song as our own until we were planning our wedding reception. We ended up letting the restaurant where we held our reception choose the music, but not until we listened to several love songs–agreeing we liked this one the best. It may not be the traditional way couples get a song, but it’s ours now. 🙂 Sarah
  • “A Man and A Woman” by U2: This song is plain and simple: it’s all about the mysterious differences between men and women, just like the title says. Between the slow-jam style groove of the song and Bono’s voice itself, this one is just made for a late-night drive with your man. —Deborah
  • “Dream a Little Dream of Me” by The Mamas and the Papas: I first heard this version when I saw the movie Leap Year. The song has been around since the early 1930s and it’s been covered by too many artists to count, but I absolutely love it by The Mamas & The Papas! Cass Elliott’s voice is absolutely beautiful and every time I hear this song, I’m reminded of how lucky I am to be in love. Sarah
  • “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley: You can’t have a top 10 list of love songs without at least one song from The King. (You’ll learn pretty quickly that I think he’s fitting for every playlist ever!) This one is just beautiful. It’s from his movie Blue Hawaii, and it’s one of my all-time favorite songs. That’s why I walked down the aisle to it in my wedding. —Deborah
  • “At Last” by Etta James: Who doesn’t love this song?! I mean, it’s a classic for a reason! It basically sums up exactly how I felt when I met Ryan. He smiled and “then the spell was cast.” (Cheesy but true.) Not to mention, it’s the perfect slow dance song! Sarah
